THE ROLE OF PHILANTHROPY

Philanthropic funds are incredibly important.

Philanthropy is not beholden to election cycles or shareholders. And with the ability to be nimble, flexible, innovative and independent, philanthropy in partnership with powerful and effective community and other non-government actors can hold the keys to achieving change and scaling up the right solutions.

Philanthropy empowers the community and its leaders and has a long track record of building capacity in movements, supporting advocacy to achieve major outcomes and ensuring impact for investment. Philanthropy plays a vital role in supporting the actions of ordinary Australians as they repair landscapes, advocate for better policies, make life changes, use their purchasing power, act together in communities and enjoy and protect nature.

CAPACITY

Are we funding the environment to our full capacity?

POTENTIAL

Is there the potential for us to increase our level of commitment over the next 3 years?

EFFECTIVENESS

Are we funding as strategically and effectively as possible?

DIVESTMENT

Have we begun to divest from fossil fuels?

IMPACT

Have we begun to invest in positive projects?

If needed, the AEGN can support you in this reflection either personally or with your trustees.

STEP 05

SHARE

Make sure you share with us your pledges, actions and outcomes so we can build momentum and inspire others. Letting us know about your decision will greatly increase the impact of this campaign.

Send us a note that answers all or some of these questions:
  1. Why have you decided to increase your funding to the environment now?

  2. How much are you pledging between May 2017 to May 2022?

  3. What are you giving to?

  4. What has this giving achieved or do you hope it will achieve?

  5. Why should others join you in increasing their giving to the environment?

You can do this publicly or confidentially. For more information:

EVALUATE & SCALE UP

Enhance the impact of your funding by measuring and documenting results,
and scaling up
the most workable solutions.

Consider providing support to organisations so that they can monitor, measure and demonstrate the value of their work and build capacity to scale up solutions.

BE PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER.
